     President of the Republic of Indonesia,
     General TNI (Ret) Soeharto
     in Jakarta.

Dear Mr.President,

We would like to report to you the incident of destruction in which 25
places of worship were burned along with persecutions to church members
which brought 5 people to death on Thursday, 10 October 1996 in East Jawa
(in the cities of Situbondo, Panarukan, Wonoredjo, Banyu Putih, Asem
Bagus, Besuki and Ranurejo).

We,on behalf of the Christian Organizations, Christian community and
Christian Churches of East Jawa, would like to express our deepest concern
on the above incidents. We  would like to call upon  your attention to
this tragic incident and that through your order the appropriate actions
and legal prosecution would be taken according to the prevailing law.

Please find 1 (one) set of our Statement of Concern, data on the attacked
church buildings, and those who died along with the photographs which we
hope would provide a complete and detailed account of these tragic
incidents.
