Tenggumung Karya III/54 Surabaya. The attack took place on Sunday, June 9th, 1996, between 10:50 am and 12 noon. Our wishes are : 1. That such an event will not occur again in the future, and that the event will not be allowed to spread to other places. 2. That we get some financial aid to obtain items needed for church services (chairs, musical instruments, hymns, etc) which were looted and destroyed during the event. We together with the congregation pray that the Lord will grant wisdom and ability to the government to best handle the situation. We thank you for your attention. After the service, the church was empty, the people went home, the church guard/watchman went home, and the pastor went to the central church at Lebak Rejo, Surabaya to prepare for the evening service. 3. 10:50 am - 12 noon According to the eyewitness report of church neighbors, and members of the congregation who live nearby the following event took place : At the hour a group of about 500 people marched with the following formation : the teens in front, followed by the youth, then the adults, then the motorcycles, and the last were two trucks to transport the loot; each person was equipped with a club made of metal or wood, or other sharp objects (such as sickles). They destroyed the locked church entrance with an uproar, then they entered the building (some climbed to the roof) to barbaricly vandalize and loot the valuables such as the sound systems, musical instruments, etc. Our losses because of the vandalism and looting are : 1. Damage to the building Rp. 2,000,000 2. Church podium and offering boxes Rp. 1,000,000 3. Twelve church benches and communion table Rp. 3,500,000 4. Sound systems Rp. 2,000,000 5. Musical instruments (drum set, keyboard, guitar) Rp. 3,500,000 6. Other pastoral items and damage to the living quarters of the church watchman/guard Rp. 3,000,000 7 Miscellaneous items (wall clock, fan, hymns) Rp. 1,000,000 --------------- Total Rp.16,000,000 (Approximately US $6950) (sixteen million rupiah) Because the church was empty there was no casualty.
