2020 has been a year of uncertainty and fear.
But also a year that makes us think about what true freedom is.
Thousands have died after getting infected with COVID-19. Out of fear, the government instituted a lockdown. We willingly agreed to give up our freedom for our safety. We quickly learned that true freedom is beyond living freely.
On the other hand, freedom is also beyond gaining independence. North Korea, Hong Kong, Pakistan, and many other countries have gained their independence for decades. However, their citizens are still fighting for their freedom. Indonesia included, where massive protests against the government erupted in September 2019 in Jakarta and Papua. Why do we care so much about freedom?
The USA on the other hand is a country that has always been proud of their freedom, and have always advocated the importance of fighting for freedom, even boldly claiming that they have brought freedom to nations. Historians suggest that a free society allows the fullest expression of the human potential, while the USA prides itself to be a successful “Grand Experiment” of a society. So what can we learn from the USA?
What does the Bible say?
Apostle Peter, in 1 Peter 2, said that we can live as free people because God has given us back our dignity when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. God is the sole giver of our dignity, through freedom from enslavement of sin, thus, we are to steward our freedom by serving God and others. God has chosen us to be His chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His special possession. God redeems us so that we can declare praises of Him by serving and loving others.
Stewardship of Christian Freedom
This year, in OMC 2020, we will discuss how we can be good stewards of our freedom, what is the freedom that we possess as Christians, and how should our freedom guide the way we live as an individual and in society.

OMC is Going Global
OMC is an annual conference organized by FICA since 1993. OMC is a time and place where we gather to learn about the recent trends regarding social issues, politics, business, economics, and other major events in Indonesia and address them through the lens of Biblical worldview.
Just because COVID-19 happens and we can’t meet in person doesn’t mean that OMC can’t be memorable – maybe even life-changing. OMC is redesigned to equip you in biblical worldview, make lifelong friendships, and serve others
Here’s what’s happening:
You’ll be able to hear from our speakers on what is true freedom in Jesus Christ. Our speakers are experts in different areas that will complement each other as we study how we can be a good steward of our freedom. But that’s not all, you’ll also get the chance to attend workshops on a variety of topics. Equally important is the fellowship and sharing of opportunities between believers.
The Bible teaches that Christians are to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14). We believe this means making the world around us a better place regardless of our circumstances. During OMC, you’ll be given opportunities to discuss real world projects where we can apply our passions and serve our communities!
Indonesian Christians from all over the USA (and Indonesia too!) are joining together to learn from each other & grow our understanding on what God says about freedom. Each participant can engage with one another throughout this conference and make lifelong friendships. Stay tuned for more details!
Are you in?
One of the best parts about OMC is the relationships formed during the conference. We will utilize digital tools (Zoom, Youtube, Slack) to ensure networking and partnerships to occur and highly encourage you to be proactive in seeking network through OMC.
This OMC may not look like how it normally does, but the special times we are living through have given us all the opportunity to come together in a way that’s never been possible!
